Electric Vehicles (EV)

RPU customers can receive a $500 Electric Vehicle rebate when they sign up for one of RPU’s Time-of-Use (TOU) rates.

Residential Time-of-Use

Customers with electric vehicles who sign up for RPU’s Residential TOU rate will receive a one-time $500 enrollment rebate and can benefit from charging during off-peak times. Scheduling electric vehicles to charge overnight or “off-peak” can save $150-$200 per year, based on driving 13,000 miles.

  • $500 enrollment rebate for the first qualifying EV and $150 for each additional qualifying EV
  • Charging can be scheduled during off-peak times (10 p.m.-8 a.m.) to reduce costs
  • No additional metering required
  • Must remain on rate for one year

This rate is best for:

  • Customers who can schedule their EV to charge overnight during off-peak times (10 p.m.-8 a.m.)
  • Customers who can shift some usage to off-peak times (e.g., time delay function on appliances)
  • Customers with all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles

This rate is not ideal for:

  • Customers who will primarily charge their EVs during on-peak times (8am-10pm)

Electric Vehicle Charging Time-of-Use

Customers may also choose to have their electric vehicle(s) metered separately and qualify for RPU’s EV Charging TOU rate. Additional metering infrastructure is required, making this a good option for new construction, homes with detached garages, or homes that require electrical infrastructure updates to support charging. Additional monthly meter fees apply.

  • $500 enrollment rebate for the first qualifying EV and $150 for each additional qualifying EV
  • Charging can be scheduled during off-peak times (10 p.m.-8 a.m.) to reduce costs
  • Must remain on rate for one year

This rate is best for:

  • New construction homes
  • Installations that require significant electrical upgrades

This rate is not ideal for:

  • Existing homes with adequate electrical capacity
  • Plug-in hybrids

How are these Time-of-Use rates structured?

On the Residential Time-of-Use rate, the day is split into three time periods with three different rates:

  • Super-Peak hours are between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. during weekdays. The energy used during this time costs the most of all the periods. The super-peak rate is higher in the summer.
  • On-Peak hours are between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.  during weekdays.  Energy used during this time costs more than our standard residential rate.
  • Off-Peak hours are between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. during weekdays and all day during the weekend and holidays. The energy used during this time costs less than the standard residential rate.

On the EV Charging Time-of-Use rate, the day is split into two time periods with two different rates:

  • On-Peak hours are between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. during weekdays. Energy used during this time costs more than our standard residential rate. The on-peak rate is also higher in the summer.
  • Off-Peak hours are between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. during weekdays and all day during the weekend and holidays. The energy used during this time costs less than the standard residential rate.
