Multifamily Energy Savings Program

Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) and Minnesota Energy Resources have partnered with the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) to offer Rochester multifamily building owners the Multifamily Energy Savings Program.

This free program includes a comprehensive natural gas and electric energy assessment. It also provides complimentary energy-saving installations tailored to the needs of multifamily buildings.

Who Is Eligible?

Multifamily buildings with five or more units are eligible to participate if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • They are electric customers of RPU and receive natural gas service from Minnesota Energy Resources for central heating and either central or individual water heating; or
  • They are electric customers of RPU with electric heating and electric water heating.

Eligible building types include:

  • Apartments and townhomes
  • Condominiums
  • 55+ senior housing
  • Assisted living and nursing homes
  • Low-income housing
  • On-campus college housing

Note: This program does not include homeless shelters, prisons or jails, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, congregate care facilities, hotels, or motels.

Program Benefits

Program services are provided at no cost and include:

  • Free installation of high-efficiency showerheads, faucet aerators, and pipe insulation, where appropriate for building operations
  • Energy assessment services, including:
    • Evaluation of centralized heating systems
    • Optimization of boiler control settings
    • Central ventilation flow measurement and diagnostics
    • Identification of building operations and energy-efficiency opportunities
  • A customized energy report with actionable recommendations
  • Follow-up assistance with high-value energy-saving opportunities

All materials and labor are provided at no cost, regardless of building size.

  3. Receive guidance on implementing energy-saving projects, including information about financing options and available rebates.
