Multifamily Energy Savings Program

Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) and Minnesota Energy Resources have partnered with the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) to bring Rochester multifamily building owners a valuable opportunity: the Multifamily Energy Savings Program.

This free program provides a comprehensive natural gas and electric assessment along with complimentary energy-saving installations—tailored to the unique needs of multifamily buildings.

Who Is Eligible?

Multifamily buildings with five or more units are eligible to participate if they meet the following criteria:

  • Are electric customers of Rochester Public Utilities (RPU), and
  • Receive natural gas service from Minnesota Energy Resources for central heating and either central or individual water heating

Eligible building types include:

  • Apartments and townhomes
  • Condominiums
  • 55+ senior housing
  • Assisted living and nursing homes
  • Low-income housing
  • On-campus college housing

Note: This program does not include homeless shelters, prisons/jails, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, congregate care facilities, hotels, or motels.

Program Benefits

At no cost to you, program services include:

  • Free direct installation of high-efficiency showerheads, faucet aerators, and pipe insulation where appropriate for building operations.
  • Energy assessment services including:
    • Evaluation of centralized heating systems
    • Boiler control settings optimization
    • Central ventilation flow measurement and diagnostics
    • Building operations and efficiency opportunities
  • Customized energy report with actionable recommendations
  • Follow-up assistance with high-value savings opportunities.

All materials and labor are covered—no matter the size of your building.
