ROCHESTER, Minn. — Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) responded to a power outage late Monday evening, Oct. 12, affecting approximately 7,000 customers.
The outage occurred at approximately 11:52 p.m. following an equipment failure at RPU’s Cascade Creek substation. Insulation on a current transformer failed, creating an electrical arc that produced a loud noise and damaged nearby equipment.
RPU crews responded to the incident and worked to restore service by transferring affected customers to another electrical feeder. Some customers may have experienced a brief interruption in service during this process.
Power was fully restored to all affected customers by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.
RPU appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews worked to safely restore service.
