Partners Helps Conserve Natural Resources
On hot, summer weekdays when business and industry are in full production and residential customers are using air conditioners to keep cool, the demand for electricity reaches its highest peaks.
During these peak demand periods, generating plants are producing at near capacity. Meeting this additional demand often would require building more facilities or purchasing power at volatile market rates. However, by reducing peak demand, RPU can defer construction of new generating plants, reduce the upward pressure on electric rates, and conserve natural resources.
With PARTNERS, RPU reduces these peak demands by cycling central air conditioners (A/C's) and electric water heaters.
How Partners Works
During periods of peak electric use, RPU will transmit a signal, which activates a remote-controlled switch that is installed near your central A/C or electric water heater. The signal causes the switch to cycle your central A/C compressor and/or electric water heater elements for set time periods on peak demand days.
The fan on your central A/C will continue to
operate, blowing already cooled air throughout
your home. Most people are not even aware that
their central A/C compressor is being cycled
off.
Partners For Central Air Conditioners
For each of the five summer months, May through
September, you'll earn a $3 credit on your electric
bill in exchange for periodic cycling of your
central A/C during hot peak demand days. That's
a total of $15 off your summer electric bills.
Partners For Electric Water Heaters
If you have an electric water heater and allow
RPU to cycle it on and off during peak periods,
you will receive a $3 credit each month throughout
the year. That's an annual savings of $36.
If both your central A/C and electric water
heater are registered under the Partners program,
you will receive a $5 credit each month throughout
the year for an annual savings of $60.
How To Become A PARTNER
PARTNERS is available to any residential RPU customer who has a central A/C or electric water heater (minimum 40 gallons) in working condition.
PARTNERS is also available
in conjunction with a Conserve
& Save rebate of up to $300 toward the
purchase of a new, high-efficiency central A/C.

the application form. You can also sign
up by calling 507-280-1500. A licensed contractor
will install the remote control switch at no
cost to you.
Credits will be issued each month following installation of the equipment and processing of your application, which may take up to 6 weeks.
