The high efficiency HVAC rate is available
to customers who:
Use either an air-source or ground-source
heat pump as their only source of heating
and cooling in their home.
Use an electric water heater (usually
connected to the desuperheater of the heat
pump) as their only source of domestic water
heating.
Receive prior approval of the equipment
from RPU. Note that equipment must be rated
by the American Refrigeration Institute
(ARI)* and meet the minimum efficiency standards
listed below:
Minimum Qualifications for Air Source
Heat Pump:
SEER (1)
14.0
Minimum Qualifications for Ground Source Heat
Pump (GSHP)/Geothermal Systems:
EER (2)
14.1
(1) SEER: Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio
(2) EER: Energy Efficiency Ratio
*For air source heat pumps and water-to-air
ground sounce heat pumps: The efficiency ratings
are determined using the Air Conditioing and
Refrigeration Institutes (ARI) directory, which
may be found at www.aridirectory.org.
For water-to-water ground source heat pumps:
The efficiency ratings are verified using manufacturer
specifications, which clearly demonstrate the
Entering Water Temperature (EWT), Gallon Per
Minute (GPM) water flow, and associated EER
rating.
These must be individual private dwellings where
service is supplied at one point of delivery
and measured through one meter. They are single
phase, 60 hertz and 120/240 volts alternating
current.
