WELLHEAD PROTECTION PART 1 REPORT COMPLETED
RPU Will Host Public Meeting To Present Report

ROCHESTER, Minn—The City of Rochester is developing a wellhead protection plan for its drinking water supply wells, and Part 1 of the plan is completed. RPU will present the wellhead protection plan at an open-house meeting on November 22, 2004, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the RPU Service Center, 4000 E. River Rd. NE.

Wellhead protection is a way to prevent drinking water from becoming polluted by managing potential sources of contamination in the area which supplies water to a public well, according to the Minnesota Department of Health, which oversees coordination of wellhead protection plans.

Part 1 of the City of Rochester's Wellhead Protection Plan includes information pertaining to:

1. The delineation of the Wellhead Protection Area;
2. The delineation of the Drinking Water Supply Management Area
(DWSMA); and
3. The vulnerability assessment of both the drinking water supply wells and the aquifer within the DWSMA.
