WELLHEAD PROTECTION PART 1 REPORT COMPLETED
RPU Will Host Public Meeting To
Present Report
ROCHESTER, Minn—The City of Rochester
is developing a wellhead protection plan for
its drinking water supply wells, and Part 1
of the plan is completed. RPU will present the
wellhead protection plan at an open-house meeting
on November 22, 2004, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the
Community Room of the RPU Service Center, 4000
E. River Rd. NE.
Wellhead protection is a way to prevent drinking
water from becoming polluted by managing potential
sources of contamination in the area which supplies
water to a public well, according to the Minnesota
Department of Health, which oversees coordination
of wellhead protection plans.
Part 1 of the City of Rochester's Wellhead Protection
Plan includes information pertaining to:
1. The delineation of the Wellhead Protection
Area;
2. The delineation of the Drinking Water Supply
Management Area
(DWSMA); and
3. The vulnerability assessment of both the
drinking water supply wells and the aquifer
within the DWSMA.
