RPU Celebrates its Role in the Community, Oct. 2-8

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) is celebrating Public Power Week, Oct. 2-8, along with more than 2,000 other consumer-owned electric utilities that collectively provide electricity on a not-for-profit basis to 35 million Americans.

“Public Power Week honors RPU’s community ownership, which results in reliable, affordable electricity for citizens and businesses. It also recognizes the economic, social, and environmental contributions of a community-owned power system,” said Larry Koshire, general manager of RPU.

Public Power Week is a national, annual event sponsored in conjunction with the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Washington, D.C. APPA is the service organization for community- and state-owned electric utilities.

“We all rely on electricity everyday of the week,” Koshire said. “Having a community-owned electric system allows us to make decisions locally and use our resources in ways that best suit our needs.”

RPU invites community members to visit the RPU Service Center at 4000 East River Road NE during business hours the week of October 2-8 to celebrate Public Power Week. Coffee, cider, cookies, and energy conservation information will be available in the lobby.

“At RPU, we are committed to providing the best service possible to our customers and meeting their high expectations in doing so, we are enriching their lives,” Koshire said.
