RPU Board to Hear Recommendations for Future Power Supply

ROCHESTER, Minn.—The RPU board will hear and consider a recommendation for future power supply options at its regularly scheduled meeting on July 26 at 4 p.m., at the RPU Service Center, 4000 E. River Rd. NE, Rochester.

The meeting is open to the public.

In late 2003, RPU committed to an 18-month process of detailed studies and information evaluation related to Rochester’s future power supply needs. The studies and evaluations included environmental, economic, regulatory, and operational considerations. The process involved RPU staff, several consultants, and community members through public meetings and a task force.

“The reports’ conclusions recommend a combination of initiatives to meet Rochester’s future energy demands, including recommendations for renewable energy, demand side management, and emission controls for the Silver Lake Power Plant. The results give the RPU board an excellent tool to guide future decisions,” said RPU General Manager Larry Koshire.

The various studies have been previously presented to the board, and then placed on file. To access the studies and related information, please visit the Infrastructure Planning page.
