Spring fire hydrant flushing to begin this
week
ROCHESTER, MN— In accordance with the American
Water Works Association (AWWA) standards and RPU’s
commitment to maintaining a clean water supply for
Rochester residents, RPU will be flushing fire hydrants
beginning the week of March 26.
The flushing ensures that fire hydrants are working
properly and that they are available for fire suppression.
Flushing will be done during weekdays between the
hours of 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The attached
maps show the location of the first two flushing
locations in southeast and northwest Rochester.
It will take approximately a week to flush all hydrants
in each mapped location.
Customers are advised that during the flushing operation,
the water may become rusty, but is still safe to
drink. Customers should also refrain from washing
clothes during flushing operations as there is potential
for rusty water to stain laundry.
