ROCHESTER , MN — Rochester Public Utilities is pleased to announce it has completed work to install a 12” pipeline from the Silver Lake Power Plant to the Mayo Clinic’s Prospect Plant. On November 16 th steam flowed for the first time through the new pipeline.

The pipeline travels from the Silver Lake Plant west under 6 th Street to 2 nd Avenue, then heading south into Mayo’s Prospect Plant. At full output there will be 800 degree F steam traveling at up to 150,000 pounds per hour through the new pipeline.

The steam provided by RPU will save Mayo an estimated $3 million annually. “The project has been a partnership that will benefit both Mayo and RPU. RPU will be making efficient use of an existing resource, while saving Mayo the expense of installing new boilers, “ said Larry Koshire, General Manager for RPU.
